Big History students grapple with BIG questions that demand global perspective: What will the future of our universe look like, and what role will we play in shaping its evolution? How will we balance human innovation with protection of our biosphere? Learn how this course—which spans 13.8 billion years of history and reaches beyond earthly borders—transforms students’ ability to analyze and respond to the increasingly complex global issues of our time.
Attendees of this session will be treated to an overview of the Big History Project (BHP) course content and instructional approach, interact with course materials, and evaluate fit for their own classroom/school settings. Topics will include:
·Course content: What does 13.8 billion years cover?
·Core Skills/Concepts: Claim-testing, critical thinking, Origin Stories, scale, causality
·Course material/structure: 10 units, Unit Driving Questions, Investigations. Articles, Videos, activities, etc.
·Approach to literacy: reading, writing, vocab – and supporting resources
·Wraparound support: online training, community, PLCs, etc.
